How Will Recent NCAA Changes Affect You?

This past year has brought a lot of change for the NCAA, including updates to NIL, roster limits, and the transfer portal as well as the repercussions of the NCAA scholarship settlement.

How will these changes affect student athletes? Truth is, we’re not totally sure yet. 

But here is what we do know:

  • Impact will vary by school. Each program is different, and a lot depends on the size of the program and how much the administration chooses to allocate their resources. 

  • Budget matters. Many colleges and universities are facing financial challenges, which will have a direct impact on the future of athletic programs.  

  • Walk-ons will face challenges. For many DI schools, it may become harder, or even impossible, to talk walk-ons. 

What about Division III Athletics? 

Expect an influx of DI athletes moving into the DIII space. We’ve actually already seen this in the transfer portal activity. 

So, what can I do? 

  • Have honest conversations with coaches. 

  • Ask how their administration is supporting athletics. 

  • Be clear about your interest. If you’re genuinely excited about a program, let a coach know!!
