Colin McLain
VISUAL ART SUPPLEMENT ADVISOR
Colin McLain has been a professor at Parsons School of Design in New York City for over twenty years. In addition to teaching undergraduates, he developed a course called Portfolio Development in which he helps high school students create tailored portfolios for art and design schools, and as art supplements for college applications. His approach to art education focuses on helping students find their voice while ensuring they have the skills necessary to use it clearly and confidently.
Colin received his BFA summa cum laude from Tyler School of Art. He was then awarded a Rotary Fellowship to study in Italy at Studio Art Centers International. Colin is also a practicing painter whose work has been exhibited nationwide and in Italy. His exhibitions have been reviewed in publications including Flash Art and The New York Times.
As a father of three, Colin also brings a parent’s perspective to the application process. He’s helped his own kids apply to private high schools and recently supported his oldest through the college application journey.
